Mam Tor walk looked doable and from the blogs we read and the vlogs we saw, it looked an enticing walk. We visited Peak District during the last bank holiday weekend to go on the much awaited walk. Hiking to Mam Tor is a great way to experience Peak District. All the routes are circular and they take you to the summit of Mam Tor where breathtaking views of Hope Valley awaits you. There are several routes leading to Mam Tor and you can choose one that suits you the best. Good shoes are needed if doing the full walk as there are some rocky/muddy steps in parts which were a bit slippery.Mam Tor walk in the Peak District is definitely one of the must do items for anyone visiting the Peak district. You can take it at a steady pace and the scenery is varied and gorgeous the whole way round. The path then appears and leads you back into Castleton. Also a welcome toilet break as there are none on the walk.Ĭarry on up the road and just opposite Spar take the road by the church and then on your right there's a footpath that runs along the river for a small part and then into fields. The walk continues downwards through a tree lined path which takes your to Hope village where we couldn't help but have a pint in the Old Cheshire Cheese pub. You'll walk down this and find grazing sheep. A little bit of a steeper climb on rocky path. Stunning colours of the green fields, especially against the blue skies.Īs you carry on following the Ridge you come to Back Tor. At the top there's a marker and views in all directions. There's a great view of the winding road if you walk over to the left hand side as you walk up. The first climb up Mam Tor isn't difficult. Walking firstly through fields and then up via the old collapsed road. We started and ended our walk from Castleton. We were lucky to have a sunny day in October with no wind.
